12th June 2014 – Damien – Christine Farm
I am really delighted to have signed an MOU with Brana today. They are running a trial on the farm where they will grow Sorgrum (used to make beer). If this works it will be amazing for the valley as Brana will contract up to 100 local farmers to grow the crop for them, guaranteeing a purchase price. All participating farmers will be trained up on Christine where seed and harvested crop will be stored. Fingers crossed all goes well See more photos HERE
1st June 2014 – Damien – Christine Farm
Today we hosted a really successful Open Day on Soul of Haiti’s Model Farm, Christine. Hundreds of people came from all over Haiti to see what we are doing in this beautiful area. I was so proud to look around and see all we have achieved over the past 3 years. From a wasteland we have grown what is today a successful commercial farm, employing 15 people, a training center where we are teaching 60 local farmers better farming practices, creating higher yields and putting more food on their tables. A place where we are experimenting with new crops which might be grown in the valley, and working hard to develop new routes to market for local produce. All this despite the complete devastation wrecked by Hurricane Sandy!!
What a testament to the resilience and tenacity of our team both here in Haiti and back in Ireland.
25th May 2014 – Damien – Ile a Vache
Fantastic activity on the island today!
There was the Blessing of the Boats followed by a 5 hour long mass with 22 priests and a Cardinal.
This moved on to a big Mothers Day celebration at the orphanage where Sr Flora was obviously the guest of honour
The current endless rain held off for the Soccer Match, where unfortunately the Madame Bernard Team were beaten 2:1 in the final.
